Taylorwood Wines Newsletter

Happy New Year everyone! We hope the holiday season was good to you and the start of 2010 has been filled with excitement! Taylorwood Wines started off with a new "flow" for our store. If you've been in you would have noticed the change for sure! For those of you who have been hibernating a bit after all the holiday cheer let me paint the picture. A revolution of sorts occurred the other day when the red wines decided they deserved "top" spot. They formed a militia and stormed the wall. The whites were taken by surprise and surrendered with no bottles lost. So the reds are very content in their new home on the wall and the whites are enjoying the extra attention they are getting on their islands. There has been some grumbling coming from the ice wines but they were pacified with promises of a new dwelling soon. Stay tuned for further developments.

January is definitely going to be an exciting month as we prepare for the upcoming Olympic Games starting February 12th. We will share finalized details with you in our newsletter at the beginning of February regarding store hours, in-store tastings and changes in the area. You can also keep checking our website as we will be posting the information there.

With January comes sales and Taylorwood is no exception. We have 40% off our Coco art Chocolates:
20% off Taste of the Okanagan Jellies and all our books. Come in the store and check it out.

Gift Cards have arrived! We are very excited as they offer the perfect gift solution for someone who likes to browse and choose their own or when you aren't sure what to get!

With all the celebrations being planned and the spontaneous ones that will be taking place throughout the games, we just wanted to remind you to be prepared! Our new Wine Club is set to have the next delivery go out towards the end of the month. It's a great opportunity for you to let our extremely knowledgeable staff do the shopping for you and have a thoughtfully handpicked case of wine delivered to your door! The next star in the Taylorwood cast to be featured is Jamie Quinsey. For those regulars to the store you will be familiar with his cry of "Compendium". Jamie joined our cast last October and comes equipped with a great deal of experience in both the restaurant and travel industries. Being an addict to the food network, especially Guy Fieri in "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives", he brings great ideas for cooking. Jamie regularly cooks with wine and sometimes he even adds it to the food. So whether you are looking for suggestions, to chat about a dish or talk accessories, Jamie's passion and enthusiasm are second to none. Welcome aboard and we are thrilled to have you!

Here is Jamie's pick:

Mission Hill Compendium

"I came across this gem on a cold blistery night in Whistler during Cornucopia last November. It was love at first taste! So much so, that I went back to the booth 4 times.

The word COMPENDIUM comes from the latin word "COMPENSO", meaning "to weigh together or balance". This describes my interaction with Compendium.

Compendium is a Bordeaux blend that is an ultra -premium wine "collection" of 52% merlot, 19% cabernet sauvignon, 19% cabernet franc, 10% petit Verdot. A.K.A. BABY OCULUS. Grapes are chosen from designated blocks within estates of Oliver and Osoyoos; hand harvested and hand sorted before being gravity filled to small French oak fermenters. After 5 weeks of extended maceration the free run and a small portion of lightly basket pressed juice was aged separately in 100% French oak barrels for 13.5 months.

I had a competition with myself for the month of December to see how much I could spread the news of this fabulous wine. With the help of my colleagues we sold 120 bottles.

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A WINE THAT YOU WILL BE SMELLING THE GLASS AFTER AN HOUR OF IT BEING GONE,THIS IS THE ONE! DARN, SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT TWO..."

Quinta Ferreira Winery has decided that in 2010 they will move forward as a winery and give back to causes/organizations that are in need. Their first initiative will be to help out with the Haiti disaster. So, from Jan 15-Feb 15, 2010 Quinta Ferreira is going to donate 10% of all its wine sales to the Haiti disaster fund. So please join Taylorwood in supporting this great cause by choosing one of their wines on your next visit.

Cheers from everyone at Taylorwood Wines!
