Staff Picks

Product:Rigamarole Red 2006
Who liked it:Sonya
Reason:As we’ve entered into summer, I’ve been leaning towards a lighter fresher flavor; opposed to the big robust reds I normally gravitate to. That’s why Rigamarole Red is perfect!! It’s a blend of Gamay Noir, Pinot Noir, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon; blending into a very fruity light red, perfect on it’s own or even better used for making my summer favorite, SANGRIA!!!!

Product:Mission Hill 2004 SLC Syrah
Who liked it:Cindy
Reason:This is a great BBQ wine - juicy, ripe and is great with grilled steaks. Can't get enough of this one!

Product:Cedar Creek 2006 Gewurztraminer
Who liked it:Ashley
Reason:With heat you need something to cool you down and this is exactly what you will want with flavors of lychée and orange blossom.; also, winner of the silver medal at the 2007 LA wine and spirits international tasting.
But, more importantly this wine goes perfectly with any of the following; spicy-lime grilled prawns, curry chicken with nectarine chutney, and an assortment of cheeses (jalapeno jack, smoked gouda & smoked mozzarella). The options are endless, but, sadly the summer isn’t, so take advantage of it all while you can.

Product:Golden Mile 2006 5th Element White
Who liked it:Cindy
Reason:I love these aromatic blends - fresh, floral and full of flavour. Great on it's own, or serve with salmon/chicken with a mango salsa.

Product:Hester Creek 2007 Pinot Gris
Who liked it:Marie
Reason:This is the first wine of the 2007 vintage for us to receive! Fresh citrus at first sip with a little sweetness on the finish. This is a tasty casual wine that is a nice "yay, the sun is out!" sipper. You could pair this wine with many lighter dishes or those fresh strawberries you just picked up from the market. A couple of additional months in the bottle should allow the elements of this newbie to integrate and please the taste buds even more.

Product:Cedar Creek 2007 Dry Riesling
Who liked it:Rita
Reason:We've been waiting, and the new vintage is out! I tried this one at the VQA Spring release, and was anticipating seeing it on our shelves. Crisp and dry but still fruity, this white has the zing of biting into a green apple. But first, let its perfumey aromas tempt you as you sit outside with casual appies and good friends. Pairs perfectly with fabulous imported cheese.

Product:Domaine de Chaberton 2007 Cuvee Blanc
Who liked it:Susan
Reason:This is simply a flavourful, reliable, flexible little wine at an everyday pricepoint (under $13). You can pick up the crisp, appley fruitiness reminiscent of German varietals (blend is not listed), yet its well-balanced acidity keeps it dry. This is a perfect party wine, working well as a sipper, and having character enough to handle foods from Thai to turkey.
